A JOURNEY TO ICELAND
with Todd Jones

Saturday, April 28
10:00 - 11:30 a.m.

Monticello area residents had a wonderful opportunity to "travel" to Iceland. Photographer Todd Jones gave a highly visual presentation at the Arts Council Studio, 224 E. Livingston, Monticello.

Todd's original goal for his 2011 trip was to explore the art of DSLR photography; however, the excursion quickly became a study of the Icelandic culture and geography. Sweeping lichen-covered lava fields, glacier-topped mountain ranges, and canyon-like fiords all served as a breath-taking backdrop to the friendly people and culture of Iceland.

This special armchair treat at Saturday at the Studio was hosted by the Monticello Area Arts Council. Refreshments were served.

OPEN STUDIO IS A PLACE TO SHARE

Open Studio is a special time set apart for the fun of learning and doing art in a group setting. At Open Studio, community members bring a project to work on with others who offer their support and advice. Hosted by Arts Council Board members, anyone with an interest in sharing is welcome to attend. Absolute beginners and practiced artists are invited. A small group of regulars is beginning to form, and we want the group to grow. The more the merrier! Please stop by Open Studio to see what we’re about, and enjoy coffee, cookies and juice while you’re there.

We meet from 10:00-12:00 on Saturday mornings. Watch for dates in the Piatt County Journal Republican and on this website. Tentative dates for upcoming Open Studios are Saturdays June 2, July 7, August 4, September 1, October 6, November 10 and December 1.

ARTS COUNCIL LIBRARY
AVAILABLE TO THE COMMUNITY

Thanks to generous donations from the community, the Arts Council has accumulated a fascinating library of books on art subjects from African sculpture to color harmony to garden design to photographing kids, as well as traditional favorites painting and drawing. Recently, an Arts Council member, Lynn Richardson, put order to the books and set up a simple-to-use checkout system. She was the perfect candidate for the task, having recently retired from Allerton Library. We expect the library to grow, and we want to make it available to individuals in the community, whether an Arts Council member or not.

If you would like to browse the library, check out books or donate books, contact Belinda Beccue at 762-7865 or Jan Gantz at 762-3551.
